Congrats to Dave!

(On his 73rd birthday no less)

Dave Niehaus is going to be the first Mariner in the HOF. (I don't count good ole Gaylord). He has been calling games for the M's since the first pitch of 1977. This award comes very well deserved. The most famous call of Dave's career would have to be Edgar's double that scored Jr in '95 against the Yanks. My oh my!

Spring is here!

Well for some. While the sun is shining in Seattle, pitchers and catchers are at in sunny Peoria, AZ. It sounds like we have a lot of good things going on. I have to wonder if or ever, Clement will be the backstop for the M's. We trade him? Have him ride pine behind Kenji?

We also have the Canadian reporting to training camp, the 19 year old Aumont. With his 6'7" stature, I hope he is able to make to Tacoma this year. I am planning on making a better effort to go to Tacoma games and see our minors in action. I am only dream when Aumont, King Felix and a healthy Bedard leading the charge to the playoffs.

Later this month, maybe early March, I will dedicate some time to my picks for this.

Correction and Pitchers and Catchers report!

Bedard is 28, and turns 29 before the season begins. My statement of 26 was apparently wishful thinking.

Pitchers and Catchers report this Wednesday!

Okay, I am rethinking Bedard

For several years now, I have ranted about how Bavasi does not do anything. Or, when he does, all I do is criticize. This time, I am taking the "yellow brick road" approach.

The M's are going to have to give up some talent to get some talent. I would like to see Adam Jones do well, but the M's are not making the playoffs because we have a great RF. Bedard would be a nice lefty compliment to King Felix. Having Bedard could help take some pressure from King Felix and allow for a great 1-2 punch. To Bedard's credit, he is only 26 years old. Assuming we can keep him healthy, and sign him to a long-term contract, the M's could have a great start to building a solid pitching rotation.

This trade has the smell of Mark Langston for Randy Johnson, Brian Holman, and Gene Harris. The only thing about that trade, Randy was a total unknown but losing Langston was a big deal back in the day. With this involving Jones, it smells like the Cruz Jr. trade that brought Mike Timlin and Paul Spoljaric to the M's. Cruz Jr. had endless "potential" and for the most part has had a somewhat successful career as he has bounced from the M's, Blue Jays, Giants, D-Rays, D-Backs, Dodgers, Padres, and now the Yankees.

Pitchers and catchers report next week!

Bedard talks

I am not sure what the rest of the country is hearing, but I am sick and tired of hearing about this potential Bedard trade. First, I don't want him because he has yet to have a healthy season. With that said, he is amazing when healthy. We are selling a lot of "unknowns" in this trade. Is/was Adam Jones the future of this franchise? What about our bullpen? George had a pretty good year overall. Since this trade sounds like a sure, barring a re-up on a contract from the O's, I should get use to his name.

With that said, Yahoo! opened registration for fantasy baseball. Email to commish happened this morning!
